Leadership is not only about what people do. It is also about how they think.
That is one of the reasons I enjoyed my conversation with Elaine Powell on The Leadership Match. Elaine is known as The Thought Disruptor, creator of THINK Elevation, a keynote speaker, TEDx speaker, former TEDx curator, and leadership expert who has trained more than 65,000 people globally.
What stood out to me in this episode is how clearly Elaine connects thinking to behavior.
Many organizations want better performance, better communication, stronger accountability, and more engaged teams. But often, they only focus on the surface. They train skills, processes, and systems without addressing the thinking that drives the behavior.
Elaine’s work goes deeper.
Through her THINK methodology, she helps leaders and teams elevate the way they think, communicate, lead, and perform. Her framework focuses on thoughts, the human being behind the leadership, integrity, navigating reality, and responsibility.
One of my favorite takeaways from our conversation was this idea:
If thinking drives behavior, leaders have to develop the internal engine, not just the external skill.
That matters in leadership.
It matters in business.
It matters in culture.
We also talked about integrity and the power of honoring your word. Elaine shared that leadership has to sit on a strong foundation. If a leader has a weak relationship with their word, trust begins to break. People may forget what was said in a meeting, but they rarely forget when someone does not follow through on a promise.
That is a real leadership lesson.
Leadership is not just about having vision. It is about becoming the kind of person people can trust to act on that vision.
Elaine’s episode is a great reminder that better leadership starts with better thinking.
When leaders elevate their thinking, they elevate their communication, decisions, accountability, performance, and impact.
